How long since implant? If it's been long enough for an actual scar capsule to have formed, this doesn't seem right to me. Is the PS telling you that there isn't much of a capsule and so PS is leaving most of it in? I can't see how you would be able to have a capsulectomy without going under general.

Hi, thanks for your post!
No, no one has told me they would do a capsulectomy under local. document.write(' ');I was hoing that someone who HAS experienced this would share.
Someone told me a lady had hers done under local, someone on the board, a capsulectomy, and it took three hours and her doctor was very gentle and it worked out fine and she was awake the whole time. I think I remember reading about it, too, but can't recall who it was.
I was wondering, since I don't know who she is, if she might come forward and share more about her experience, or, if someone else has had this done under local (besides just removing the implants because I already know I can do that under local).
Sorry if my post was confusing!

I wonder what kind of procedure you are having? I only had the implants removed and had no sedatives or anesthesia; just numbing. I had no pain, problems or discomfort. I actually had to remind myself not to do some things. I hosted a baby shower the day after explant. What I am trying to say is that everybody and every situation os so different. I believe it depends on exactly what you have done, the time & care the doctor takes with you and the amount of drugs you get. I wanted them out with the absolute least amount of invasion. If you'd like to read my story, I have attached it here. Contact me if you have any qustions.
IN…
I got saline implants via TUBA 7 years ago and want them out. I am not quite sure if they are what is causing my illness though. You see, before they were implanted, I had the symptoms: arthritis and Raynaud's, but since have been tested and am positive for lupus. My symptoms have increased but probably would have anyway. I'm sure if I had been tested before implants, the result would have been the same. Too bad I didn't because I NEVER would have had it done in that case. [size=
]My story begins with the craziness of pre-menopause, extreme stress (my youngest child was a drug addict), my husband was more & more active in a rock band which meant not home a lot and out late nights with younger women all around. I felt like I was fading. I had nursed 4 kids (a total of 4.5 years), and got heavily into exercise since it was the only way I didn't think about my son for those 2 hours a day and lost 50 pounds. My "girls" were ugly and I needed help. So a trip to the surgeon I made! He is a very nice, very good plastic surgeon and used the TUBA method to place my smooth saline implants over the muscle. They look great and I have no problems with the implant themselves. They actually served the purpose for a while. Now, I am over menopause, my son is doing wonderfully, my husband is not playing out anymore, I gained 25 pounds back and I feel like I just want to be natural again. I am self-conscious about the size (36C), think twice before I hug somebody thinking that they feel the "balls" like I do, and am suffering from such neck, shoulder and upper back pain. I went to the chiropractor once and left in tears because I can't go back due to the pain of lying on my boobs. [size=
]Anyway, I have an appointment with the same doctor who implanted them because I really do trust him and his abilities. If anyone has had an explantation without a capsulectomy, with just a local, please contact me. I know all the cons of that with the junk that might be trapped in the capsule but I really want this done with the least amount of invasion for now. The more stressed I get, mentally or physically, the worse I flare. I am considering doing it and seeing what happens in about a year with my health. I don't have my appointment until Wednesday (7/9/08) so haven't discussed any of this with him yet. I also wonder if the capsules might be thinner due to the TUBA. I received an email from Dr. Huang and she seems to think they might be. I am in the Denver area so if I do not feel comfortable with my implant doctor, I will probably see Dr. Huang.[size=
]Thanks for all you wonderful women who pour your hearts out here to help others.[size=

OUT…
Thanks for your thoughts ladies.
It's done & I am so pleased! Here is my explantation story.
Thursday night, before the surgery, I was pretty scared, doubtful, confused. At my pre-op appointment, my doc was really hesitant about doing this with just a local. I didn't even want a sedative or any "mind altering" drugs. I just don't do well at all with that stuff. But after talking with him for two & a half hours, he agreed. He is so awesome. Really took time asking questions about me, my life - everything because he told me he wants to treat me the best possible way for me and everybody is different so he wanted to really individualize my care. When I woke up yesterday morning, I felt fantastic about my decision. I just knew I was doing the right thing. I got there and it was the first big surgery he's done without his anesthetist so his daughter got the role of caring for me, since I was awake. She is adorable. Both his beautiful daughters work for him - one is his assistant and the other (the one in charge of my personal care) is his secretary. I honestly love the fact that it is a family business, so to speak, because they are all cut from the same honest, decent, caring, perfectionist person, Dr. Dallas Williams. They truly make you feel like part of their family with their sincere caring treatment. He was so considerate that he altered some regular procedures for my needs. For instance, I have Raynaud’s, which is poor blood circulation to the fingers, so instead of keeping the room so cold (like most all surgery rooms are) he made it nice and warm. He also had Jenny rotate blankets for me every half hour from the warmer to keep me warm & comfy. Pillows, music of my choice, frequently asking if I was alright & needed anything. They were great. She took care of me while he & his other daughter, Tammy, operated.
First he numbed one breast with needles and made a small incision under the breast to place a larger tube so that the numbing agent could go under the implant sufficiently. It didn't stay there; just long enough to release a larger amount of the numbing that a hypodermic needle could. He didn't want to pierce the implant putting it under the breast so he used that method. Then he cut around the bottom half of the areola, through the tissue, then the capsule and separated the capsule from the implant, drained the saline and then pulled the implant out. My capsules were very thin but strong and he guaranteed me there was no reason to remove the capsule. The implant was in perfect condition, still thick and dry (not oily from any silicone release) and he said removing the capsule is a horrible process needing much more time, healing and general anesthetic. It sometimes gets stuck to the tissue, which would mean that some breast tissue would have to be cut in order to remove it. He then stitched the capsule where he cut it to get to the implant, stitched some tissue and stitched the inside of the areola. I have no external stitches because he knows that it will look much better without the extra suture scars. It took a total of three & a half hours to remove both but he was as gentle as he could be, and he is very much a perfectionist - something I LOVE about him. So after the surgery was over, I put on a small, heavy duty, sports bra with instructions of reaching in there and lifting the breast because, with Dr. Williams' common sense method, the tissue will heal better in a position where you want it to be. Not squished down with bandage wraps but firm pressure up as high as they can go. After 6 weeks, the breast should fall at a natural shape. It was funny because after it was all done, I looked down and broke into a huge grin - I still had good breasts! We gave high fives all around for that! I even have cleavage in my sports bra! I feel so good about this; I know I made the right decision. I am now taking Medrol - a steroid to prevent any swelling- another common sense method since tissue heals much better if there is no swelling, and Cipro just to be sure of no infection. Since I have some funky issues with my health, he wanted to make sure I wouldn't get an infection. I have had no pain meds and absolutely don't need any. I go back to see my doc next week to get the waterproof bandage off the areola and get checked.
I hope that anyone interested in this process contacts Dr. Williams in Loveland, Colorado. He is not only a perfectionist as a doctor and does everything he can to beautify his patients with their best interest in mind; he and his staff are also the most caring and compassionate people you could want to associate with. They definitely do not treat patients like other medical professionals have treated me before - impersonally or like just another case to make money from. By the way, he charged $3,000 and I feel that it is a fair price considering all the time and work he did.
I apologize if this is a bit lengthy - the steroids make me feel very good and I get a bit chatty! I also think this is important for any woman who is considering an explantation. I highly advise you to check out the PS and make sure you are comfortable with him/her. With the prices that some charge, you might want to consider a trip to Colorado to visit Dr. Williams - you won't be disappointed!
Thanks for all your input ladies.
Sincerely,
Audrey

I mean this coming up Aug 9th 2010, today's date is Aug 4th 2010. When are you going to get explanted? How many docs have you seen? Mine is costing $7550 an en bloc removal with a breast lift too!

Congrats again! You must be excited.
I have one more consult....next week then whew, think I'm done! I think I already know who I'm going with but I want to finish my consults. I've consulted quite a few doctors...it will probably be six in all, and then two others (one by phone and one via email) that are well-known.
I met with a doctor who does fat transplants but he said even before seeing my breasts that I wasn't a candidate. Rats! He thinks I'll have too much skin and there's only so much fat most of these fat-injecting doctors will add to the breast.
It's nice you're doing it all at once. Lift and explant. Good for you.
The doc I will probably go with will remove the implants but not the capsule with local. I'm over 50 and do not want anesthesia if I can possibly avoid it safely. That's just me, though. I had problems with anesthesia before and had some heart trouble with it as well. So I have to think about that on top of everything else. So that's probably what I'll do which seems the best thing in my case.
At any rate, keep us posted Betsyaida! I can't wait to hear how it went and just know you're going to look absolutely amazing!

Thank you Beth and Catty,
Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I had so much stuff to do at work and didn't have time, since I will be gone for at least a week I had a lot of work to do.
I am sooo excited to be natural again.
The doctor says he has a tough job because my breast implants are really beautiful, I got really nice results even though they are 10 years old.
I don't care though because I want my health back and I can't wait until these implants are out of me.
I will keep you all posted. I have a question which I will post a new post about blood flow to nipples after en block removal.
Thank you sooo much for both of your support.
Betsy

Hi,
Well, I've got mid-October set for my explant. I can't wait! (Well, I don't exactly look forward to the procedure itself but I do look so forward to afterwards!)
I will be going to a local PS, very repuatable, and having it done under local anesthesia. Two posters on this board used him and are very satisfied.
Yippee!

You found the doctor that you wanted and they are going to do it while you are awake with local the way you want.
Which doctor are you using?

Thanks for the well wishes ladies!
I chose Dr. Richard Rand, former chief of plastic surgery at the University of WA. He practices in Bellevue, WA. That's about 30 minutes from where I live. Two of the board members here were kind enough to share their experiences.
One was explanted under local anesthesia like I will be, the other had a lift with her explant so of course did not do local. Both have been very satisfied.
This board has been sooo helpful and I wouldn't have found these awesome ladies otherwise.

An update:
I am actually looking for a different PS now for my explant.
Further, I hope I can get the surgery done sooner, since the other doctor's office will be closed most of Sept.

My PS gave me the option of going with sedation and local an. instead of general for my explant. I haven't decided what I'll be going with yet. I'm thinking sedation may be enough for me because I don't like all of the side effects of general, but going with a local also freaks me out! I've got a few weeks to figure it all out though.
Why did you decide to change your PS?

After being asked to reschedule to yet a third surgery date , I decided to look elsewhere. Supposedly some other patients set to have surgeries on the same day as mine (but earlier in the day), wanted more procedures done and so I lost my date we'd set for surgery twice due to this.
I decided not to reschedule a third time.
I have two consults coming up in the next two weeks. Sigh. Hope to get this done soon!

I don't live in the US so I'm not sure if my PS's name will help you out! Sorry!
I am also opting NOT to get the capsule out (as recommended by my PS because of muscle deformity concerns) which is probably why local is okay for me.
Good luck finding the right PS for you!
