I really am getting conflicting info. I just talked to a rheumatologist. He said that he would love to find a connection between implants and these diseases. He said that his exwife is a plastic surgeon and he would love to be able to proove that a problem exists. He also said he practiced in the Los Angeles area and saw many patients with

I so understand your confusion and it is confusing. But think about this for a moment....if it is illegal to inject silicone into the body because of hazards which include inflammation, granulomas etc. than what is the difference when one has silicone breast implants and the product fails ie rupture, leaving gross silicone gel to migrate throughout the body. Why is it so important to get the ruptured implant out if it is not hazardous to your health.

There is a lab in New Orleans that does a test called the antipolymer antibody.

Hi Karina,
Lots of great information, thanks! Another thought... for many years there were no studies proving that smoking caused lung cancer, but there was enough anecdotal evidence of smokers getting cancer, as well as bronchitis, heart disease, etc., that most doctors advised their patients to quit smoking, even without scientific "proof". Why is it so different with breast implants???
Why is it such a stretch for them to even consider that a foreign object made up of toxic chemicals, and implanted in the chest, could be dangerous to women's health? And if a woman with implants has unexplained illness, why not advise her to consider removal?
It's all about money I suppose, but maybe someday the truth will come out about implants just as it did with cigarettes. We can hope!

Marie H.
