Hi everyone,

Dry saunas (not steam-filled but who knows) may or may not be a contraindication for silicone or saline implants, but I wanted to get your attention because of what the manufacturers of a sauna company put on their webiste. It seems that all people who do business with the public have to protect themselves from our litigous society, so this is what they wrote:

" . . . Certainly, the usage of an Infrared Sauna must be discontinued if you experience pain near any such implants. Silicone does absorb Far infrared energy. Implanted silicone or silicone prostheses for nose or ear replacement may be warmed by the Far infrared waves. Since silicone melts at over 200°C (392°F), it should not be adversely affected by the usage of Infrared saunas. It is still advised that you check with your surgeon and possibly a representative from the implant manufacturer to be certain" (infrared sauna site).

RE: IMPLANTS ARE A CONTRAINDICATION FOR FAR INFRARED SAUNA
Infrared Saunas are safe for implants, but they detox you at a much deeper level then a regular sauna, so you should use with caution and make sure to start off slow and replenish with electrolytes. I have saline implants and have been using Infrared Saunas for over 5 years and feel they have actually helped my situation. Infrared energy exists in the invisible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum from about 780 nanometers to 3,000 nanometers (near infrared) up to wavelengths of 5,000 to 10,000 nanometers (far infrared).
If enough infrared energy was able to penetrate to the depth of any woman's breast implants (even a very thin woman with virtually no breast tissue of her own), her own tissues would be damaged first (thermal burns). So even if breast skin is exposed to intense enough infrared energy to burn the skin, very little energy gets deep enough to even heat the silicone implants a tiny bit. Nothing to worry about at all!
