Has anyone that had implants placed under the muscle have muscle detached from the sternum? My PS did this in order to place implants under my muscle. I don't notice any distortions or decrease in strength but wondering if that will change with explant. Any advice please. I'm very concerned.

Another thing. Would I be able to see any muscle distortion with the implants in or is it only noticeable when they are removed? Please help!

Hi Bettie no I did not have detachment at the sternum myself but I have seen posts about this. I think moderator mandytc had this and if I remember her muscles were detached high up and could not be repaired.

You could PM her. However I will tell you she has talked about the very obvious effects of this with the implants in and with them out - this was noticeable and painful. It was a problem for her.

She can better tell you. How come you are so sure yours are detached - were the implants very large? I would have thought you would have noticed something?

Cheers

J

My explant PS told me that by reading my post op report by my original PS. My implants are silicone 400cc. I'm nit sure if that's considered large. They are big for me.

Bette - I had the muscle detached for the implants too and it is noticeable - not horribly bad though - it is improving with time.

Thanks hindsight. I've just read so much about muscle distortion and it's making me scared about explant. I've read some women talking about a V shape deformity. Im debating if it's really necessary to pay the added cost to try and repair the muscle. With repair it will double the amount of the explant because alloderm is so expensive. So the appearance and strength of it got better with time? I haven't started any physical activity yet cause I haven't been released. I've flexed my muscles in front of the mirror and don't really notice anything. Except I do feel like the implants are going to explode too. It's a weird feeling.

I spoke to my original PS today and she said the 90% of muscle is still attached. Does this make a difference with explant?

[color="navy"][font=tahoma][size=medium]I don't think it's standard procedure, but I don't think it's all that uncommon either for PSs to detach some of the muscle from the sternum to try to give better cleavage.

I just spoke to my original PS and yes the muscle was detached for "clevage" and that 90 % is still attached. I'm just so afraid about distortion.
